If you are not having fun.....

Warning! Picture Heavy post!

I just discovered something that I think is great! I can type my post is Word and have my spell check on and change my fonts and do all the “normal stuff” I do when I type – and THEN copy it over to my post. This is great because, the internet connection is not always the greatest and I like playing with fonts and I am not thrilled with Blogger’s spell check and they don’t have grammar check. ( that was a lot of ANDs J) I also have a tendency to capitalized two letters in a word (holding down the shift too long) and Word fixes that for me. I am liking this!
Have you been following the Bowls with Borders?
if not, you should!

I was getting a wee bit worried about making my bowls- I was NOT having fun! I wasn’t doing something right. My motto is “if you are not having fun, you aren’t doing it right!” I ripped out so many stitches that I wore out the fabric 3 times. Sherman was complaining- "Didn't we just stitch this seam?" NOT FUN! It didn’t help that I thought my day was the 13th (because my day for RWB was the 13th and my day for Think Christmas was 31st) so I was kinda freaking out and thinkin’ “there is no way I will be ready.” I wanted to give up but admitting defeat does not come easy! Thanks to Regina’s help, Carol’s “I am not an expert” post, and the tutorial over at Madamme Samm's the light bulb finally turned on, I got my bowls done and I was having fun too!  I am not good at paper piecing yet but I can now say I am enjoying the learning process. I have a Craftsy class that CaMom sent me and I was so frustrated that I was just not looking forward to taking it- now I can’t wait! I have a few finishing touches I want to add to my bowls and I am excited to say, the plan I had in mind when I first saw these bowls is coming together and they will be ready for the 23rd- which is my day! Until then, visit these blogs for their bowls or you can visit Carol’s blog for the whole schedule.
 August 14th

Oh yeah! I said this was gonna be a picture heavy post- I think its a WORD heavy  post :)
Last weekend, My SweetMommie and I went to a quilt show during Franklin Grove’s Harvest Fest. We made Fredly come too- he was chief photographer and stuff carrier. We also took my friend Christa (who recently asked me to teach her to quilt. She is 8 years old.) Harvest Fest is also when the Chaplin Creek Historic Site is open, so we went there as well. These pictures were taken by Fredly and MySweetMommie- I will save the ones on my camera for another post!

I love the quilting on this! I may have a picture of the front
of it on my camera

I admire cross stitch amd embroidery-
It is not my favorite thing to do but it sure looks great

This one made me smile- the ants are carrying food all around the edges
I have a few other pictures of this one on my camera

There were quite a few vintage quilts and some reproductions too

Kettle Corn being made in a Kettle ( good place to make it)

Yum! Yum!

Pincushion in the Salt box house-
I will have to look up the dates but I believe its from late 1800's

Wednesday Wanderings

It is Wednesday and my mind is wandering!
Since I only get to a real computer on W Th and F, I will have to share my weekend with you today!
I love the way it looks like Stained Glass
with the light behind it

MySweetMommie and I had our Friday Night Sew in and she completed her Mystery Project Flimsy- She figured out what it is- can you? I now have her working on four more spinning stars for another Mystery Project. ( Mommie doesn't know what this one is.)

She just now sent me the pictures of the the new blocks and they look great! I am proud of her!

Saturday, whilst working at the Dosido (aka grocery Store) I got an itch to go shopping. I found a garage sale and since it was only 10 or so minutes from MySweetMommie's house, and her house is 30 minutes closer to the mall, I had her meet me at Stitches in Time Quilt Shop. ( Of course I had to visit my favorite clearance corner.) Can't go wrong at 50% off!
Some of this loot will be in the stash box

Then we headed up to Rockford to Sonic (hip hip hooray for Strawberry Vanilla Dr Pepper and Happy Hour)  and then to Quilter's General Store. I get their newsletters and haven't been able to get up there to visit. It was a busy place- there was a shop hop going on that I hadn't heard about. Which, in retrospect, was a good thing. Mom was supposed to keep me from spending too much moolah and extra shops would have pushed me over the edge!
Loot from Quilter's General Store!  The stripey stuff  goes well with
the Honk Honk fabric for the Car Carrier I am making.

We went to Joann's and I only spent $8 and didn't buy anything for me. Oh wait I did- I got me a pair of snippits (half price.) I  managed NOT to go into Hobby Lobby- an incredibly amazing feat, thank you very much! Then we ended up at the mall and had a blast just browsing. Until I found Charming Charlie's! WOW what a fun store! SENSORY OVerlOaD!!(we will save that for another post!) Chipotle for supper and then to Starbucks (  aahhh! Mocha Coconut Java Chip!) We even managed to get home before midnight so we didn't turn into pumpkins.

The RED White and Blue Blog Hop is coming up very soon and one of my blocks is for a silent auction this Saturday, so I had to finish it. I FMQed the borders with stars! I am so excited- it worked!
MY day for the hop is the 13th! That would be Friday the 13th! My lucky day! (although I don't believe in luck- God is in control no matter what the day!)

I also joined the Think Christmas Blog Hop hosted by Leslie over at The Cuddle Quilter. I think I may already have a couple blocks done for it!

Traveling Stash GiveAWAY

I love the definition and the synonyms for
Stash, (cache, treasure, wealth, supply, inventory, riches)
noun :a secret store of valuables

As I took treasures out of the box it seemed like Mary Poppins' carpet bag- Bottomless! I have it laying across the table and there is no way all that was in this box! But it somehow fit!

This is what I am keeping- I am so excited about a few of these pieces! I am still working on Granny's Domestic Bliss ( granny squares made with Liz Scott's "Domestic Bliss" line) and I haven't been able to find more- there were two pieces of "Domestic Bliss" in the Stash! I am also making a car keeper for a nephew and there was a piece of "Honk Honk" by Michael Miller that is perfect!

This is just some of what I am putting in- I also have a couple rulers, some more fat quarters, notions and some mini charms to put in.

Since the traveling stash giveaway is only for active bloggers, and since this is my very first giveaway,  I am also having a surprise second chance giveaway for EVERYBODY(even my international readers.) I don't know yet what it is, but I promise it will be good stuff!

(Don't worry! If you are not a quilter/sewista the prize will not be fabric/supplies-
it may be made *out *of fabric)

Rules for traveling stash: I copied these directly from Danny's Blog

- Be an active blogger. Post about receiving and the giveaway on your blog in a timely manner.
- There is a note in the box that logs where the box has been. Please add your info and place the note back in the box.
- There is a list of Rules and Guidelines in the box. Please read and follow these and return the list to the box.
- You may take anything you like from the box. Just replace every item with comparable quilt shop quality items equal to the amount taken.
- Ship the box to the next person in a reasonable amount of time.
- Due to the amount of postage shipping is only within the USA. Sorry guys. I'm a little broke right now!

Now for a little heart to heart: The Traveling Stash is not a dumping ground for your old, outdated, smelly fabric. It is an opportunity to share some of your lovelies with your bloggy friends. Should you take all the pretty stuff and replenish the box with really ugly fabric, I will scowl in your general direction
* note to Danny- please don't scowl at me! I put pretty stuff in!

Now the important part. How do you win this lovely box of SWAG? Just leave a comment,  any ol' comment will do. Be sure to include a email addy. Also tell me whether or not you are a blogger! (that way I can visit your blog- I always need more friends to visit and so I can put you in the correct drawing) Followers of my blog get an extra chance- let me know how you follow in a separate comment!   I shall enlist some helpers of the kidlet sort to draw a name out of a hat or bowl or whatever is handy and post the winners on Monday June 18th!Update: DUH I am an AIRHEAD, I will be drawing NEXT monday JUne 25th! Sorry for the confusion!

Okay, I think I covered everything- If I forgot something please let me know!

I am doing cartwheels! ( not really, *if* I could do  cart wheels, I would be doing them!) I won a gift certificate to

I have visited them 3 times this morning and each time, instead of narrowing down the choices, I add another idea to my list.  I will figure it out soon and let you know!

Thank you SEW very much Cyndi! I will enjoy my fabric immensely!
