Ornament Exchange My Pinterventures

my pinterventures
Erlene over at My Pinterventures is hosting a fabulous Ornament Exchange.  I LOVE Christmas ornaments and just had to join. I get to swap with Sharon from the Blue Willow House. Her blog is so much FUN! Lots of Vintage goodies. To get you in the Christmas Mode click here for some music- just remember to come back here :)
My Mom and I got together to make Ornaments the other day and I had way too many ideas flowing- I didn't get as many pictures as I wanted- my phone is out of order. (grrrrr)
Lots of Crafty goodness
We made Christmas Trees with fabric, dowel rods, and thread spools. I've been throwing all my empty spools into a basket and this was the perfect time to get them out!
scrappy tree fun

These are super easy- just cut scraps into strips (we used 1.5 inch wide and pressed them in half)  Then we tied them around the dowel rod and trimmed them. the one side seems to stick up a bit so we just stuck a bit of hot glue in the "armpit" .

a bit of ribbon at the top for a hanger and a button for the star

Then we wrapped the spools in a bit of fabric, glued and embellished for the tree stand. A wee bit of hot glue on the "tree trunk" and stuck it in the spool.  We also embellished just the spools.
Sorry the pictures aren't better-
my phone has some really good ones

Then as I was playing with scraps I made a paper airplane- It was super cute - so I found some quilted paper and made more- I think I am making lots more of these.

This birdie is flying first class this year!

Have a latte? I believe I will! Part 1

Welcome to my stop on this fabulous blog hop. When I saw the theme for this hop, I knew I had to join.  My kitchen is in red and yellow and coffee. My cats are named for coffee and tea. (Earl Stanley Grey and Espresso,  I also had Lipton and Java Jack) I collect tea cups and my favorite coffee cup says "all I need is faith,  and a strong cup of coffee." so I obviously had to be a part. My residents at the nursing home and I do Zumba to the song Java Jive  My post,  however, will not be featuring Dan's Have a Latte fabric, which is very sad. I had these grandiose ideas of finally finishing the curtains for my kitchen - I bought the fabric a while ago but they needed another fabric. Along came Have a Latte - perfect!  Except for the fact that I am still waiting for it to arrive at my house - in fact if you are reading this on Friday morning around 10 am it has probably arrived.  A little bit late for a 12am blog post.
So plan B- nope, can't do that one
Plan C? nope, not that one either.
On to plan D - - - > I have the fabric I originally bought for my curtains,  this fabric literally had my name on it so I *had* to buy it.  (my name is Bobbie StClair)
I plan to use the texty strip for the border on the curtains along with Dan's fabric. The cups and pots will be the valance.
I couldn't cut into the fabric alot since I'm winging the curtains but wanted something to share.
I have the pleasure of having a coffee shop literally in my back yard. Yup go right out my back door and 2 houses down the alley and there it is. I try not to go too often but often enough.  So I decided to make the barista her very own Zarf.  I learned this word from Words with Friends.  A Zarf is the sleeve that you put on a coffee cup.  Also called a coffee collar or a cozy.  I have a few, even for my giant coffee cup, and they are fabulous. This is the tutorial I used, fussy cutting the Espresso panel and some other coffee fabric I had in my stash.  Instead of velcro I used snaps.  I quilted with  a bit of meandering FMQ to mimic steam.
I took a moment to run over to the coffee shop and "have a latte"  but the usual counter people weren't there so I brought my zarf home and will deliver it another time.
I hope you have a latte fun and fabric and coffee today. Visit these other sewing baristas and Perk up and let this hop be grounds for happiness.

I did finish up a tote bag yesterday (well I have to add a couple buttons) for the Sew n Swap  tote bag swap.  I am very pleased with how it turned out since I smooshed a couple tutorials together and changed a few things.  However, I can't show it to you yet. So here's a sneak peek

Rush Hour coming soon!

Wow! I've have been quite quiet on the bloggy front! I am sew glad Madame Samm has just the right hop to get me blogging again! This time its Rush Hour!
Sew we quilt
and the way life has been it's been a constant rush hour 'round here! Hopefully things will get back to a normal ish schedule now that I have an assistant again. I have been toying with  ideas for the hop and just today a perfect idea popped into my email! YAY - I have the fabric just didn't know what I wanted to make! Stay tuned- I will be showing it off soon!

I have been working on a quilt for EmmaBean (she is 5yo)- she was with me at the fabric store and I decided to make her a dress but couldn't decide which owl fabric I liked best so I asked her. She said- with that sweet sigh, "Aunt Bobbie, I'd rather have a blanket...." How can an Aunt Bobbie say no to that? Emma is the only one of my nieces and nephews that didn't get one when they were born. Emma picked out the rest of the fabric- with some veto power from Aunt Bobbie- and a few nudges the right direction.
I spent a couple hours playing with the ideas for the pattern, and I am pleased with it so far. I forgot to buy binding and found the rosebud fabric in my stash and ended up using it for the back and a border- and didn't have enough to use for binding- soI got some white with dots- not that I'm ready for the binding yet, but...
I am using Warm and Natural batting- which I've not used before and WOW what a difference! I LOVE this stuff! I almost feel like I should apologize to all my other projects for not using it!

Have a fab day!

january

Wow! Wow oh wow! It is only January 10th and I have FINISHED some projects! I know - it is rather shocking! First I finished Seth's blanket:
I just Love this little guy!

Then I finished 3 small projects (no matter the size- a finish is a finish!) for the Wake up to Kona Hop- but I can't show them to you yet!  So here is a picture of Earl Stanley Grey "helping" me out.
You can see all the bright colors I got to work with.

I am also close to finishing this quilt top- I started it a couple years ago for a friend who loves kitties but since they travel all over the country for most of the year, they can't have one. :( This way she can cuddle with a whole bunch of kitties! This quilt is working up a lot larger than I thought it would- I had "lap quilt" pictured and it is almost covering my double bed- and I have two more borders to put on!

Kitties in the Garden I am using 3 different kitty prints and a lot of flowers
(the flowers that look like Easter eggs in the picture are not eggs,
 they really are Hyacinths
Be sure to check out last week's Blog Hop Participants- there are a lot of Gorgeous projects and the colors will brighten your day!
