Newfo for may!

Miah's drawing- I asked for a parrot with the sun behind him
Last week I borrowed Miah and we went shopping. At every store Miah looked for a cover for his e-reader, to no avail. So Aunt Bobbie decided to make him one. I wanted something with parrots but couldn't find the right fabric. So I went with applique. Miah drew me a picture and I tried to copy it.
I tried to get it finished for the memorial day picnic but for got to add the sleeve to put the cardboard in to make it stiff. Oops!
I worked some more on the tie quilt and have decided that silk is a pain to sew!

I did most of this post from my phone! but I haven't figured out how to make the pictures smaller or caption them. I did the post while sitting at my desk so I could check it on the "real" Computer :)

NewFOs for April

I am actually going to remember to link up this month- I ALWAYS have a New FO going on, I just never remember to link up!
In April I was rather busy with the Volunteer Party- I made rice hot/cold packs for the volunteers (I used Lori's tutorial over at Bee in My Bonnet) but I can't seem to find a picture :( I just realized the extras are lying on the table so I can take a picture!

I called them Hot Lead/ cold Feet packs to go with the movie theme

I also started some bags

and made a blueberry (AC wanted everything blueberry for his birthday and since my fabric for his gift wasn't here yet I made a blue berry)
Him and Bernard the blueberry are rather silly
I also made a scrap bag and pin cushion- just for me!
I got the Debbie Mumm fabric for my birthday
and started a memory tie quilt for a friend
I have since found a much better fabric for the background
I even have a plan in mind for the tie quilt- and may be able to work on it this weekend. All these projects are finished except the Tie Quilt-I got more done than I thought, I should do this more often.
Have a great day!Oh by the way, I am linking this up with Cat Patches NewFO Party! Cat Patches

Lookee What I won!

Okay, first of all, WHO stole the month of MAY? And JUST How did June get here when I wasn't done with May? Sistermine said on Monday that we would not be able to get the "thus and such" done for Father's Day  'cause we'd have to mail it before camp. I was thinkin'  "we have plenty of time before Father's Day, it's not til the 14th of June" she's like "um Bobbie that's less than two weeks away" It just can't be June already! Oh well, sorry Dad- you might get a "thus and such" for your birthday- (that's not til November) Sistermine gotcha something cool for Father's Day.

I won a few goodies during the SewMamaSew giveaways and some of them arrived this week! I got fun stuff in my mail box 3 days in a row! (and I am hoping for another one when I get home)

I won this oh sew adorable Brown Bear bag from Karen over at KarenChatters I just love Eric Carle. Right now,I am using this bag to carry fabric and supplies to MySweetMommie's and SisterMine's houses. But if I can talk myself into it, this bag is going in my gift stash for the next baby shower -- I do so love the polka dots and the red top stitching- She did such a great job on it!  Thank You, Karen!
I love the way the frog is jumping out of the pocket!

I also won this sweet eye glass case from Josee over at the Charming Needle    I probably will not be using it for eyeglasses- I wear my glasses to bed (gotta see what I'm dreaming) so I will use it to hold my phone! It fits perfectly! I love the quilted design on the wool and it even has a touch of turquoise which happens to be one of my favorite colors this year and the posies on the drawstring part are sew sweet! I love it! Thank You!

I also received a lovely necklace from Jayme at Finding Sweetland but will have to post pictures  another day- I didn't bring it with me! Maybe tomorrow I will have it and the other package to post about! I just found it in the pocket of my Brown Bear Bag! I was afraid I lost it! Isn't it beautiful? I love the colors and the little bit of sparkle! Thank YOU!

Sistermine and I cut out at least 8 gazillion pairs of culottes on Monday ( OK maybe not That many but at least 8 or 10 pair)- Camp is next week and she had a couple girls change their mind about going. She used up all of her stash so asked if we could raid mine. I had culottes to make for one of our girls so we just made a day of it! It was really nice to go to the already cut out fabric and whip up those culottes! I got a pair done in under 1 hour and I am sure that the rest will go faster now that I know the pattern! When our dear CaMom heard that we needed fabric she boxed up 25 yards and shipped it priority mail! (that's in addition to the three boxes o' treasure that she sent parcel post) She is way too good to us!

Now why, if they are so easy,  didn't I get all my culottes stitched up? For that, you will have to wait until tomorrow! I was having way too much fun with a few other projects! I also learned how to use a new foot! Sounds like dancing lessons!

As you can see from the pictures AbbyDoo was rather excited about the Snow White panel I got for her at the thrift store- She cut out the pieces while Sistermine and I cut out culottes. She also learned where not to touch the iron - just a small burn, with a little Kara-Vita lotion, she was fine. Mean ole Aunt Bobbie (and Mommy) made her try again and she did great!
She jumped up and down and all around
She *is* her mother's daughter! Such exuberance!!!
She jumped up and down and all around

Til Tomorrow!

hodge podge

I was hoping to be able to show you a finish from the squares I cut out on Wednesday. However, I left them in the car and decided it was too much work to go back out and get them. So I decided to go a different direction with Aunt Sukey- I am really loving the name Sukey- such fun to say.  I looked up Sukey and it is a diminuative of Susan, means lily and was popular in the 18th century.  The Kalona Quilt Block Walking Tour pamphlet  states that Aunt Sukey's Choice was featured in the Ladies Art Company mail order catalog in the 30's and 40's. I decided to make my block red, black and white. Of course, after working both jobs, my brain was rather deadish so I couldn't remember how many extra inches to add to the block to do the easy four patch or the 4 in one half square triangle. I looked up the four patch in my book - no problem! got those all cut out. Went to look up the easy 4 HST's and totally forgot where I had found it, couldn't even remember which quilt block I had been looking up when I stumbled across it (I switched phones and had bookmarked it on the old phone- that was dead and waaay in the other room) so I searched for "HST 4 at a time" and discovered how to make 8 at a time! Way too cool! After straining my over tired brain to do the calculations (that were actually already done for me- I just could not get my poor noggin wrapped around it)  I managed to get those squares cut. After all that brain overuse, I didn't have enough oomph left to actually make the HST's. BUT if my calculations are correct- I should have those babies whipped up by the time supper is ready tonight! (MySweetMommie cooks yummy food for me on Quilt Class Nights- that's her class fee!) I will let you know how they turn out!

I found this V.I.P.  Snow White Doll panel at the thrift store the other day, while looking for the batting- it was only 99cents. She is much larger than I originally thought. She's about 18 inches tall and has movable arms and legs. I believe AbbyDoo will enjoy making her.

SunshineBoy was unusually adventurous! He even held a frog!

As promised here are some pictures from the Memorial Day Picnic. The park that we like to go to is amazing! Great trails, a fabulous spring fed creek, fishing lake, and playgrounds. There are also poles for a volleyball net- We played quite a Crazy game of volleyball.  I love Volleyball- we used to play EVERY Tuesday night when I was a teenager, in the church parking lot, on the asphalt. NOT a good place to dive for the ball. Playing in the grass is much better for the knees! Of course, my favorite place to play would be the beach, but the beaches in Illinois are few and far between. :)

Determination
One of the highlights of the park is the pump. The kids would play around it all day, or at least until someone is ready to take them down the trail to the creek. EmmaBean was so determined that she could make it work! "The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul!" I love the look of pure joy when she finally gets the water to pump!
and success!

I told the boys to make their scariest faces

and then their happiest faces

MySweetMommie will be putting all of her blocks together to finish the quilt top tonight- we may even get to the borders.... maybe!
More on that next week! Have a Great Weekend!

A Lovely Lugubrious Day

Click here for music  just don't forget to come back!

It would be such a perfect day for staying home, curled up with a book and a cuppa tea or sewing, maybe a little of both! This song, along with Singing In the Rain, always gets stuck in my head on days like this.  Since I am working both jobs today, I won't be doing any sewing or reading until after 8:30pm. But hey! I am getting paid to be here and I will enjoy this day! I do love rainy days!

'Tis Thursday and I actually remembered to take Teacup pictures before leaving the house! A lovely stack of teacups- these were hanging on the plate rack, so the saucers were not in reach- I really need to put them in reach.

It is also the end of the month and I did *not* get to quilt my runner last night.
The pattern is Verna's Garden
from Moda Bake Shop
#1 the batting I got at the thrift store yesterday was small pieces rolled inside a pillow size piece- not big enough for the runner.
#2 After I got home from the Kings Kids Awards Night- I was exhausted! It was fun and the Kids worked really hard this year. I am so proud of them. Tired, but proud!

The Christmas Train is at the Station

I did, however, find something I started a while ago that I finished for a Christmas present! This little box used to be a Cricut Cartridge Box. I don't keep my cartridges in the boxes, but couldn't bear to toss such a nice box out. I used scrap book paper, stickers, hymnal pages and graphics from The Graphics Fairy and a wee bit of Mod Podge to cover it. I am sure Jo will be able to use it for her drawing pencils or something!

I used it to carry my squares for Aunt Sukey's Block

NewFO2012
NewFO Challenge
I also started a NewFO - Kristen over at Meadowbrook is making 366 blocks in a year and I loved Aunt Sukey's Block, so I decided I *had* to make a table topper.  I just got the squares cut at 2 and a half inches and realized I forgot to add the allowance for the HST's- I do not think my block will be 12 inches, unless of course I decide to start over (probably not happening)- I may have to convert it to a 10 and a half inch ish block :) I did sketch the topper and write down which squares and hst's are needed- I do so love graph paper!

Tomorrow, we shall see how much I get done after work tonight.... maybe I'll have a friday finish? I also have some Memorial Day Picnic Pix to share. If I don't get anything done I'm sure I'll find *something* to talk about! :)
Thank You to Karen at Sew Many Ways
for teaching me how to make my signature!
Enjoy your Thursday!
