Twas the week before....

The fantabulous "twas the night before..." blog hop started today and there are sew many great ideas to try!  I have been crafting like mad here trying to get ready for my bazaar which is NEXT WEEK!!!! AAAAAARGH!!!!! My office has been transformed into Santa's Workshop and me and my elves (oh wait I am the only elf in here) have been gluing and painting and spraying and tearing and printing and "oh Stink"ing when I realize that the paper I need for this project is at home. Of course, at home this elf has been cutting and stitching and gluing and "oh Stink"ing because the fabric for that project is at work. I am having a lot of fun and have actually got a lot finished for the little time I have spent crafting. Not having a vehicle is really stinky this time of year- I am so grateful for friends who do give me a ride even though it takes ForEVER to get me out of Hobby Lobby! One of my littles at church has learned (from her Dad) to say "Miss Bobbie likes Hobby Lobby." It is the cutest thing -with her little girl voice, she says W for her L and has a lisp too. I should record it!

I have been doing a lot of "From this to That"ing - people donate their gently used items and I make them purty again.
Yesterday, with just a bit of glue, paper and my new friend Glitter Blast Spray,

I changed this poor angel in need of some love to

THAT beautiful sparkling angel.  The music is Hark the Herald Angels sing. It took 4 copies of the song to cover him, but now he's ready for the angel choir again!

Be sure to check out all my friends on the hop-
This hop is so much fun- we all received a gift from the blogger before us on the list! My gift is just perfect and I love it but can't show you yet! my day is the 19th- lotsa hopping to do before then!

Rush hour

Red, black and white fabric =bliss!  I was unable to get the Rush Hour  fabric but it is definitely on my wish list. I have been oohing and aahing over each and every post!
I surprised myself and actually had my project finished right after I signed up for the hop - it was my sorta sister in law's birthday and I found just the right gift.

I had the Mickey fabric on hand from our
Disneyland  tour at the nursing home -  I made this skirt
for the Minnie Mouse Mother's Day tea.
It only has a little yellow so it works for the hop right?)

My first project is (drum roll please)  a loyalty card holde I found the tutorial from a lemon squeezy home on Pinterest of course.  My wallet won't close because of all those loyalty cards and I can never find my Shopko card or Starbucks when I need it.

next time I will have to use a non directional print!
With this handy dandy pouch (and me remembering to place the cards where they go)  I can find them in a jiffy.  There are alphabetized tabs to sort the gazillion cards to make them so much easier to find.

Since I started using it there's no more searching for the card and holding up the line extending Rush Hour. And it worked up sew quick -I made two in  an hour and now that I know what I'm doing they will be even quicker. A great "twas the night before" project.

I added some quotes to the cards just
for fun. The next ones will be made
 from fun cardstock.

As  I was looking at Tuesdays participants, I decided I needed another project - I just finished Emma bean's owl quilt and was thinking of making her a bag to match but with the hop coming I decided to make one for me first. Emma's bag will be coming next week.  I saw a picture of an owl bag and decided to make my own.  The gingham wings are from some shoulder pads I removed from my dress the other day because one got twisted.

.
I have a Bazaar coming up in November and plan to make a few more owl bags- I will be adding a pocket and making it a bit larger and some card holders to sell.

The owl  loyalty card holder I made for me! I figured out
how to get the owls right side up- sorry Mickey!

Thanks to Madame Samm and Carol for putting all this fun together for us! Be sure to stop by and check out the other amazing Rush Hour projects!

Stitchin' "on a Monday"

My Grandma Harps always did her laundry "on a Monday." (so Pasan always said) It was never just on Monday, twas on a Monday, she did other things on Tuesday and Wednesday, but laundry was "on a Monday" so any hoo, I am doing laundry and stitchin' on a Monday. I got one project finished for the For the Boys Hop which starts on Wednesday, and I am making progress on the Musicals Quilt- I really want to have it all quilted tonight. I have three other projects I hope to get done for the hop and since my day is the 15th, it may happen. Be sure to click the button on the side bar for the full schedule!
Here is a sneak peek of my "for the boys" projects:

"Presents" the puppy and other Ho Ho Holiday projects

I LOVE Christmas! Thank You to Carol and Madame Samm for giving me an extra incentive to get started ahead of time! I am a Last Minute Millie for sure!

I found this little puppy at our local grocery store just the other day and he was so cute with his little stocking in his mouth that I had to bring him home with me. (and he was only 99cents!) He became the inspiration for my mini quilt. He is a Jingle Beanie and his name is "Presents." I didn’t have any fuzzy fabric in the house and was unable to get to the store… then I remembered that I bought some stocking stuffers last year on clearance and they were fuzzy socks- but I wouldn’t have bought white ones. Thankfully the socks came in a two pair pack – one pack had a red pair and an off white pair! I just trimmed off the elastic at the top and Voila! had some very stretchy fuzzy fabric.

After I found a similar puppy picture on Google, I cut him out and got to use my handy dandy new appliqué pressing mat- I LOVE THIS THING!  I used little squares from my stash for the background and did some fun FMQ in the checkerboard squares.  His stocking has a ball and a little present in it.

As I was auditioning squares for the puppy, I decided I really liked these squares together but not for the puppy. So I made these nine patch variation blocks-  I think they will be two table toppers some day. I used a tossed nine patch tutorial.

This table runner is made from Verna’s Cutting Garden Runner recipe from Moda's BakeShop) I used part of a charm pack of Fruitcake by Basic Grey. This was a fun recipe to make!

This stocking is made from a very, old very holey quilt. I have been talking about making something out of it forever. It was very hard to take the scissors to it. At least now it can be displayed and enjoyed. The lace came from a blouse that I always wanted to fit into and never could.

I lined the stocking with some fabric from my stash and machine quilted around the hexagons to give it some stability. As I stitched, I thought about the quilter who took the time to hand stitch this quilt. The colored pieces were probably well loved scraps of clothing. What an honor to be a part of preserving it for some one else to love! This will be a Christmas gift for a dear friend.

I just saw on Pinterest this morning some Flowers made from old quilt scraps. I will definitely be using more of this quilt!

Putting my stamp on it!

My California Parents are both retired from the US Postal Service, so when I saw the announcement for this hop, I had to jump on board. Then I was thinking-"what in the world have I gotten myself into? I don't know what to make." I started brainstorming and writing all sorts of things down- how do *I* put my stamp on things?  All I ended up with was a couple of pages of words describing me, but nothing was clicking.

Then I went to my sister's to babysit her kidlets. The kids all came running, excited to see Aunt Bobbie and Miah said "I was hoping it was going to be you. We knew someone was coming to watch us, just not who.  Aunt Bobbie always makes the fun things more fun."  ( isn't he the sweetest thing?)
Didya hear that click? :)

 here is my "FUN" stamp!

Aunt Bobbie has nicknames for all the kidlets so I added fabric for each one. Abby is my Ladybug, Azariah is my AzA Rizah Roo, Elijah is my Lijasaurus, Miah is my sunshine, and Emma is my Bean

I used Carnival Fabric because carnivals are fun and there are hats and umbrellas on it (a few of my favorite things.) Just for "fun" I used a different stitch for each kidlet's section.
My Currency is 5cents because there are 5 kidlets represented on my stamp. My Country is USA.

yes that is a mentos geyser tube on my desk
I should tell you, I am an Activity Director at a nursing home- it is my job to have fun. If I am not having fun,  I am not doing my job. :)

Dr Seuss was right!

For my second stamp, I googled postage stamps and a Love stamp caught my eye- the theme for this stamp is LOVE- unconditional love. the background is the colors of the Wordless Book.
My heart was black with sin
until the Savior came in,
His precious blood I know has washed me
White as snow
And in God's Word I'm told, I'll walk the streets of gold
to grow in Christ each day, I read my Bible and pray.

My country is Heaven - this world is not my home!  Hebrews 11:16 says But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

My currency is the blood of Jesus- I Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's

My stamp is a FOREVER stamp John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish but have everlasting life.

I FMQd the word LOVE but wrote in the rest of the words, I should have used a different pen- I may cut off the edging and redo that part. I appliqued the background to some very stiff interfacing that I bought to make Madame Samm's indoor awning. I traced the edge of a small spool of thread for my "perforations"

I plan on using my stamp for an object lesson in Kings Kids this year.

Thank you for stopping by! be sure to check out the others who are joining me today- if you went in order Our fearless leader is next! I am sure she has lots of
in store for you!
Thanks to  Madame Samm and Thearica for another great hop!
By the way yesterday was Postal Workers Day- and today is my Sweet Mommie's Birthday!!!!!! Happy Birthday  Mommie! I LOVE YOU!

It isn't Raining Rain

(Click for music- it will pop up in another window and you can listen whilst you read)
"When April Showers come your way, they bring the flowers that bloom in May. So if it’s raining, have no regrets. It isn’t raining rain you know, it’s raining Violets."
I have had this song stuck in my head ever since this April Showers Mug Rug Hop was announced! So now you can have it stuck in your head too!:)

I was ever so excited that this hop was just in time for my birthday- and my friend Laurie’s birthday too! I decided to make Laurie a rug for her birthday gift, but I’ll show that one in a minute. This is the rug that was inspired by the song that is running through my head. This is MY rug for MY birthday!

I quilted the raindrops around the violets

I am NOT happy with the FMQ words but I didn’t have time to redo them.

I am so thankful to Gina for reminding me that my day was today – I was thinking that I was on Monday.

Thank you Internet

Brain Freeze! My mind is rather occupied with a million things (sound of music Picture)   especially our Hollywood Volunteer Party that is happening on Tuesday. I am glad my day isn’t Monday!

Laurie’s birthday was on Saturday  so I made her this rug- The Hollywood Party is in black, white and red and they happen to be my favorite colors and Laurie's too, so here is the Yambo Awards Mug Rug:

if you look closely I added an L for Laurie

Sunday evening, while Pastor Fritz was preaching, I was inspired to make this one.

Our Spring Campaign is titled Get in The Boat and Pastor loves to fish, (usually from his kayak- this is a canoe because the kayak looked odd.)  And I had this fish material so….

Get In The Boat. Made for Pastor Fritz.

I think if this fish got in the boat- Pastor might capsize!

I will be cutting a few more rugs in the near future, they are fun to make!

Quilt show

Just a few pictures from our first Quilt show. We had around 25 items to show- If we had had any more I would have had to go down the halls with them! We are already planning to expand the area for next year's show.

Our residents enjoyed hearing all the stories about the quilts and sharing some of their own as well.

I am sew excited! tomorrow starts the Nancy Drew HOP- makes me think of the Lindy Hop- Let's Dance! :) You can check out all the fun over at Carol's - She is our fabulous cheerleader for this hop! my day isn't until the 14th but you will see my footprints heading toward the clues!
some of my blocks adorned the nurses desk- three are from blog hops!
